Independence By Design was founded in 2025 by Alyssa Fitzgerald, a home remodeling expert with an associates degree in occupational therapy who has a passion for helping people live safely in their own homes. After years of working in both construction and healthcare, Alyssa saw a growing need in the Salina community: more and more families were looking for ways to help their loved ones age in place--but didn't know where to turn for trusted, practical help. That's where Independence by Design began.
